UPCOMING COVID-19 AND SEASONAL FLU VACCINES AT THE ADAIR COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT

Kirksville, MO 10/26/21 – Adair County residents have three upcoming COVID-19 vaccine opportunities and one seasonal flu vaccine opportunity at the Adair County Health Department, 1001 S. Jamison Street.

Guidance regarding boosters has been issued that allows fully vaccinated people to mix and match any of the three available vaccines for booster doses. For example, if you have been fully vaccinated with the Moderna vaccine for six months or longer, your booster dose can be Pfizer-BioNTech or Johnson & Johnson. If you have been fully vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine for six months or longer, your booster dose can be Moderna or Johnson & Johnson. If you received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, your booster can be Pfizer or Moderna. The Adair County Health Department does not currently have a supply of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Third doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are recommended for those with immunosuppressive health conditions or those taking an immunosuppressive drug. Third doses are required because people with these conditions do not reach the same protection benefit after two doses as people without these conditions do. Third doses of the Pfizer vaccine are available for those ages 12 and older. For the Moderna vaccine, they are available for those ages 18 and older. You should talk to your doctor about your need for a third dose.

Booster doses are designed to increase protection to fully vaccinated people because efficacy of the vaccines wane over time. The following people currently qualify for boosters:

  • Those ages 65 and older;
  • Those ages 18 and older who live in long-term care settings;
  • Those ages 18 to 64 who have underlying health conditions; and,
  • Those ages 18 to 64 who are at increased risk due to their occupation or work setting because they work on-site in close proximity with the public and co-workers, including:
    • First responders, law enforcement, and healthcare and long-term care workers who have contact with patients and/or the public;
    • Education workers such as teachers, staff, and daycare workers;
    • Food and agriculture workers, including those who work at area plants;
    • Correctional facility workers;
    • U.S. Postal Service workers;
    • Public transit workers and school bus drivers; and,
    • Grocery store workers.

First, second, third, and booster doses of the Pfizer vaccine will be administered Thursday, Oct. 28, from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Call 660-665-8491 to register. Consent forms are available curbside.

COVID-19 vaccines and boosters are free, but you must bring proof of prior vaccination if you are receiving your second or third dose or a booster. Masks are required and short or loose sleeves are recommended.
