The overall count has reached 2,924 with 125 active cases and 2,772 people who have left isolation. As the highly transmissible Delta variant spreads throughout the county, it shows no signs of slowing down.
“The case numbers continue to rise quickly in Adair County, keeping us in the COVID-19 high-risk category,” said Jim LeBaron, Adair County Health Department administrator. “We’re also seeing much higher numbers of children under the age of 12 who are being infected with the virus. They’re too young for any of the current vaccines, so our high numbers are putting them at risk,” he said.
“To stop the rapid spread of the Delta variant here, we’re all going to have to do two things,” LeBaron said. “First, get vaccinated if you have not already done so. The vaccines are easily accessible, they cost you nothing, and they are proving to greatly reduce your chance of hospitalization and death from COVID-19. The vast majority of hospitalizations and deaths are among the unvaccinated,” he said.
